What's a Crafty Rat?

Hi! My name is Max, and I am the crafty rat behind the art! Curious what a crafty rat is? Well, let me break it down for you...

Crafty:

I've loved crafting since I was little, and I've dabbled in just about whatever craft projects I could get my hands on (I've got the hot glue gun burns to prove it). As a kid, I loved using cereal boxes, old clothes, and random bits of plastic junk to create miniature food and furniture. In high school, I turned small, old toys of mine into earrings. Just recently, I made a miniature scene almost entirely out of scrap cardboard, and now I make patches and clothing out of rescued fabrics.

While the crafts may be varied, using recycled materials in my creations has always been a part of the picture. I love taking old things and turning them into something new! It's exciting, reduces waste, and forces me to think creatively about how I can use what I already have. Now I want to inspire you to get crafty with what you have too!

Rats:

I've had quite a few pet rats, and after getting my first two, I fell in love with everything ratty. Rats are resourceful and love gathering materials to make cozy nests with. I used to love giving my rats shredded paper, just to watch them bounce around with it in their mouths as they carry it home. In that way, I definitely feel like a rat. I've got all sorts of fabric scraps, food boxes, and bits of plastic that I save away to turn into something else.

So, there you have it. That's what being a crafty rat means to me. But, notice that this site isn't called "CraftyRat," it's called "CraftyRats." That's because I want you to be a crafty rat too! I hope this site inspires you to get resourceful, creative, and crafty with what you already have. Maybe that's by learning how to upcycle your clothing, inspiring you to make patches, or giving you a place to shop for art that's created with secondhand materials, instead of straight off the conveyor belt. Whatever the case may be, I hope you enjoy your time here!
